Welcome to Escape and Artist!
We have two new members of the Cats and Cardamom menagerie - two Nigora goats named Esky and Artsy! (Short for “Escape” and “Artist”, of course…)
These two little critters came to us from a breeder in Pennsylvania at Northbranch Abbey who is working to establish the Nigora breed - a cross between Nigerian Dwarf and Angora goats. Most “dual-purpose” goats are meant to be used for meat and milk, but this breed is a dual-purpose goat that is supposed to have good milk and fiber! Their coats are delightfully soft and they’re just going to get better as they grow up!
We’ve been on the waiting list for about a year, and we had the chance to pick our two doelings to bring home this spring. We got them at about 8-10 weeks and took them on a trip from PA to their new home in Maryland!
These little ladies seem to be settling in pretty well. So far we’ve learned that they really like animal crackers and mulberry branches.
More updates to come soon, along with pictures of the Goat Galley being built to keep these guys warm and dry. Until then, let’s hope the fence keeps them in!
